About

My Ledger is written by me, Nauman.

I have named the blog My Ledger because apart from being an accountant, that is how I would characterize my learning experience so far – chronicling and recording whatever piques my interest. I have set up this site to help keep myself accountable and (hopefully) offer some insights and inspiration by distilling what has been worthwhile to me.

Who am I?

I was born and raised in Pakistan, primarily in Islamabad and Lahore, before moving to Dubai in 2012. As a Chartered Accountant by profession, I obtained my CFA Charter in 2017, coinciding with the birth of my son, Hamza. While the two events may not be directly correlated, life has a way of presenting unexpected coincidences.

In the early stages of my career, from 2007 to 2014, I immersed myself in public accounting at PwC. Since, I have been working in corporate finance. You can head over to my LinkedIn profile to see how that has evolved.

More important than any of these milestones, though, is my family. My wife, Sana, and our children, Hamza and Anya, are my most significant achievements.

My writing

In the past, I turned to writing as an emotional outlet to process my thoughts while grappling with anxiety and anger issues. The act of putting pen to paper allowed me to untangle the complexities of my mind. Over time, this practice evolved into a more sophisticated approach to clear thinking and informed decision-making. Writing transformed from a mere coping mechanism into an intellectual tool for personal growth and development.

Here’s the thing: a lot of what I write about is stuff I’m still learning myself. In fact, if you see anything useful on here at all, I am probably just paraphrasing someone smarter. The ideas and insights I share are based on my current understanding, which is always evolving. I’m not trying to preach or claim to have all the answers. I just want to learn, grow, and share my experiences with others who might find them useful.

As I’ve aged and embraced the joys and challenges of fatherhood, a new philosophy has dawned upon me: There’s got to be more to life than just work and climbing the corporate ladder. Although I still revel in the intellectual complexities of finance and accounting, what really drives me these days is the relentless pursuit of personal growth.
